01Project Introduction

A large rural plot surrounded by farmland, ecologically cut off despite its size. The owners wanted birds, hedgehogs and amphibians back.

04Design Strategy

Plant mixed native hedgerows along two boundaries to reconnect the plot to a nearby woodland strip, add a shallow amphibian pond in the wettest corner, and build deadwood and brash structures as shelter stepping-stones.

08Result

Twelve bird species nesting in year two, smooth newts in the pond in the first spring, and a garden that now functions as a corridor rather than an island.
